2021-2024
From 2021, I spent three years on the Outreach Committee of the Royal Entomological Society. In this role, I volunteered as Editor of their children’s insect science magazine INSTAR published annually in time for Insect Week.
I was Editor for the 2022, 2023 and 2024 issues, gathering articles from other authors as well as writing and illustrating a number of articles myself.
Amazing Ants, 2023
Illustrations made to accompany an article I wrote called ‘Amazing Ants’, detailing the biology of eight species of ant with some unusual physical or behavioural adaptations.
Guide to Insect Larvae, 2022
Illustrations made to accompany an article I wrote called ‘Whose baby is this?’, which featured a key to help kids identify different kinds of insect larvae based on their physical characteristics.

Guide to Insect Mouthparts, 2022
Illustrations made to accompany an article I wrote called ‘Small but mighty: a guide to insect mouths’, which explored the anatomy of a basic insect mouth as well as how the parts of the mouth have adapted for different diets and lifestyles.
Insect Art Competition
Social media posters for the Insect Art Competition I helped launch and judge for the RES two years running.
Insect Gut Bacteria, 2024
Illustrations made to accompany an article by Dr Andongma Awawing called ‘Using insect tummy bacteria to our advantage’. The article was about Dr Awawing’s career as an entomologist, as well as her research on using insect gut bacteria to control agricultural insect pests.
